Panel Discussion Design –
Culture & Society
The Ahmedabad Design Week 2020 and World Design Organization have joined hands to create this segment of ADW. Design – Culture & Society is a panel-based discussion on the future of design and sustainability in the context of culture & society. The panel was conceived to be a discursive platform that brings together leading policymakers, designers and educators to map and investigate the role of design in sustainable development, in the global context.
This event is being moderated by the President of WDO, Srini Srinivasan.
In the words of Srini, “Design has been around for thousands of years and is deeply rooted in our society. Even before the industrial revolution communities have used design to create much needed tools, arms, utensils, jewelry, art, and entertainment to make a living. Culture played a major role in influencing the design. The influence of culture on design can be seen from early works from Africa, China and India among other countries. The industrial revolution started re-defining design for new machinery with the goal of increasing efficiency in production of essential goods and services. New technological development brought new solutions. As we move into Industrial Revolution 4.0, let us discuss the influence of Culture on design and society in our current life.”
