Toy Design Challenge
Toy Design Challenge 2021 is an initiative and a platform for popular, future based reimaginations of traditional toy ideas and practices. TDC 2021 is looking for toy ideas/ prototypes which are focused on storytelling, craft practices and innovation based designs. We invite design students and professionals to develop and share ideas/prototypes of toys which explore craft, new making technologies and popular culture. The challenge aims to showcase and support toy design innovations – hand made or machine made, virtual or physical, that changes the world for better. We are looking for toys with the potential to capture the imagination of our popular culture, futuristic in their appeal and will be affordable. . Participation Categories

Toy Design Challenge 2020 is pleased to welcome all submissions from design students & professionals

Category 1 : Students

Ideas from students or team of students*.

Category 2 : Professionals

Ideas from designers*, craft practitioners*, design companies and toy company and/or business organizations.

  • Several projects can be submitted per person/organization, however, every project can only be registered once.
  • Team size is limited to 6 people per entry.
  • For submissions in the professional category the idea/s should not released in the industry.
Competition Subcategories

For both Students Category and Open Category the following are competition subcategories

  • Game design
  • Best design of Traditional Toy Fused with Emerging Technologies
  • Early childhood Learning
  • Traditional Toy
  • Fashion Toys
  • Culture & Heritage
  • Digital Game Design
Awards

For both Students Category and Open Category there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for each subcategory

The Toy Design Challenge promises the first top 10 winners in the professional category a chance to pitch their prize winning toy concepts to the Startups like:

  • i-Hub, Government of Gujarat Initiative
  • Other government and private agencies.

TDC2020 team reserves the right to promote the winning ideas worldwide, to creative communities, design professionals, business and potential clients worldwide, year-long coverage on our website, and critical acclaim by our distinguished associated jury members, industry experts.

How to participate?
  • All entrants need to register themselves in the online portal (ahmedabaddesignweek.com)
  • All students need to have college/institution ID proof.
  • All participants need to have proof of ID such as Aadhar card, Pan Card, Voter ID card, Passport as proof of residence of India.

No registration charges!

*Terms and Conditions
  • By submission, participants agree to multiple reproduction and promotional publication of their entry, with no time limit.
  • All submissions have to be original ideas.
  • The copyright and IPR belong to the participant.
  • The organizer (TDC team) holds the right to substitute a jury member in case of illness or unavailability.
  • The jury may request the participant to submit the proof of their project timeline.
  • The decision of the jury is final and abiding.
  • All participants must save their submission with themselves/keep a backup of their submission in soft-copy/digital format.
  • The organizer reserves the right to change/edit any rules or part of the challenge at any given point in time. Any such changes will be announced in the portal.

Assessment Criteria

Keeping in focus on reimaging craft+tradition though futuristic imagination + Contemporary culture, the TDC-2020 jury will asses entries on the following criteria

  • Story idea
  • Innovation and integration of emerging technologies
  • User experience
  • Availability of raw material
  • Product and market feasibility
  • Social and cultural values
  • Affordability

Category 1 : Students

This format of submission is in a poster format based on the details given below

Concept Poster .pdf A1 (594mm X 841mm) Max file size: 15 MB, Resolution: 300 dpi
.jpg A3 (297mm X 420mm) Max file size: 15 MB, Max resolution: 300 dpi
Final idea image/s .jpg 1200px X 1200px Upload at least 5 images. Please upload all the images in the prescribed 1:1 format. Resolution: 300 dpi for each image. Max combined size of all 5-images should be less than 15MB.
Idea Write-up .doc/.docx Word count: between 50 to 100 The write-up should include the project methodology & it’s value creation. Please mention your and your teams name, institution’s name, semester and your social media handles clearly in the document.

Assessment Process
  • All the screened entries will be assessed by the jury members to select the best entries.
  • The best entries will be notified by email to prepare their submission in a video format and submit.
  • In the final round the participants will present their submission to the jury & an expert audience.
