Abeer is a journalist, game designer and author from New Delhi. He is the creator of a board game called The Poll, built with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. He is an author-signed to Rupa Publications, one of the leading book publishing houses in India. He has taught games for social good at MDI Gurgaon, Srishti School of Art and Design and Christ College as a guest lecturer.

Sambit is a multi disciplinary design educator, with a wide spectrum of interest in the field of design, art and performance. Over the past 10 years, has worked as a design copy writer and editor, screen and stage actor, has written and co-written lyrics, dialogues and scripts for short films and has worked as a voice artist. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Design at the Unitedworld Institute of Design, Gandhinagar.

The oldest known board game, the Senet from Egypt hails from around 3500 BC. It is a testament to human ingenuity and competitive spirit that it is still played today. Since then board games have been an inseparable part of everyone’s childhood; from the most simple snakes and ladders to the infinite complexities of chess, endless possibilities of scrabble, quick thinking of checkers to the shrewdness of Monopoly. Be it simply a medium of recreation or as a key learning aid board games stimulate our imagination and critical thinking while helping us develop interpersonal skills. Almost every facet of human life can somehow or other be imagined as a board game. This panel will delve into how board games came to be, how a game is developed, right from a germinate idea to a successful marketable product and the impact and prospects of board games in the coming times.
